French Food

Another more visual blog about French food culture and food. These are we purchased and consumed, so what you see and read here coming from our first hand experience. Enjoy ! They were tasty !

About a 15 minutes walk from us there is a market. Open 8am to 1:30pm Tuesday through Sunday. The variety is incredible from local growers and local vendors. They sell what is available in the season. They don’t have uniform perfect shapes and blemish free skins, BUT they taste awesome !! After the US it was here in France when I tasted many veggies and fruits the way they were actually supposed to taste.

The watermelon was juicy, sweet and crunchy. Peaches had almost a juicy, creamy but firm texture and very pleasant sweetness.

“Just” a simple salad. Cherry tomatoes, Spanish ham, walnuts, lettuce and a super delicious mozzarella. Wow….the ham reminded me when I was growing up in Hungary and we had ham like this. All the memories came to me.

This is just a micro sample of all the incredible variety of cheeses, sausages and BREAD we have here in France. Made by locals.

Lelaine and I shared this beautiful and tasty lunch at one of our favorite places…….Chez Bobonne ! Cheeses from light to more robust and some local meat samples.

10” pepperoni pizza at a favorite Italian place. Interesting thing that 1 pizza is for 1 person. You can eat the whole thing and you are not bloated or full……unless you wash it down with a pint of beer and finish the meal with a Tiramisu. Now that is a dinner !!

Mid day break at Au Poussin Rose Patisserie. Coffee and two incredible Pavlovas. Simple, yet elegant and beautiful flavors. Made early in the morning with quality, fresh ingredients. Crunchy meringue, in house whipped cream and fresh fruits. Creamy richness. Sweet, but it is not overwhelming.

Pavlova close up.

Just walking down the street came across this place. I want to try all!

Oh, at the Au Poussin Rose they make these too, not just the Pavlova. Bitesized heaven and none of these have that heavy sugary taste I used to get with sweets in the US. Quality ingredients.

Had lunch the other day at Washoku Sushi. The quality of the ingredients are just amazing. I know I talk about the quality a lot, but after the US I can not get over the wonderful food in France ! Still get surprised a lot .

Cheers with a proper pint of Guinness ! They pour first and then let it settle. Now they top it off and it forms that beautiful creamy head.
